What is shared about oneself:
Tena koe (Hello), I am Jill. I am a retiree living in the North Island of Aotearoa, New Zealand and I am originally from the South Island.

If you have not been to Aotearoa it is a very small but very beautiful island nation in the South Pacific with very strong culture. We have 3 official languages but mostly English is spoken. Te Reo Maori and NZ Sign Language are the others. Aotearoa is made up of 3 main islands, North Island, South Island, Stewart Island and numerous smaller islands.

Our national bird is the nocturnal and flightless Kiwi which is rarely seen. The people from Aotearoa are affectionately and very proudly called 'kiwis' and we are quite happy to be seen during the daylight hours.

I love to garden and I grow a food forest on my very tiny block where I live in my tiny house with my very hyperactive feline BFF called Luna. I am currently studying Horticulture at a local college. I share the food I grow with my friends, neighbours and a few charitable organizations. I also love to bake and having my own produce in my garden to bake with is very special. I gift cakes to anyone who wants them.

I also love to craft however, since moving into a tiny home I no longer have much room for crafting so my garden is really my happy place.

I lived in Australia for 16 years and my children and grand children all still live over there. I miss them a lot. I have been to Fiji and I am planning a vacation with my grand daughter to Rarotonga in the future.

Where I live is in the shipping port city of Tauranga, situated in the stunning Bay of Plenty. We are known for our Kiwi Fruit growing.

Where I was born and lived the first 15 years of my life is the amazing Mohua, Golden Bay in the Abel Tasman National Park at the top of the South Island. An interesting little fact is, in 1642 when Abel Tasman arrived there he named the bay 'Murderers Bay' following a violent encounter with the local Maori. Golden Bay is a much more apt name today due to the golden sands on all the beaches and the locals are very friendly and welcoming. That will always be 'home' to me although I have not lived there for many years.

I will love to receive postcards with pictures of your local area and country and your animals with real stamps as I do collect stamps but I will be happy with whatever you choose to send me. I would love you tell me why you chose the card you did for me. I would also love to learn a little about your country and the area you live.

Please don't send blank cards with just happy postcrossing. I know there is not a lot of space but there is enough to tell little stories.

Finally, I would love to do direct swaps with anyone in any country so if you would like a regular sender in New Zealand please hit me up, I'm your gal!

Haere ra me nga mihi (bye bye and best wishes)
